Scratching On Mixtrack Pro

ScratchingScratching

Scratching, sometimes referred to as scrubbing, is a DJ and turntablist technique of moving a vinyl record back and forth on a turntable to produce percussive or rhythmic sounds. A crossfader on a DJ mixer may be used to fade between two records simultaneously. While scratching is most associated with hip hop music. Jan 06, 2016  Last week, the team behind the largest free and open source DJ software Mixxx dropped a brand new version of their application, Mixxx 2.0. The new version adds a number of major new features that make it leaps and bounds better than when we last took a serious look at the program back in 2012 (see our review of version 1.10), including four decks, FX chaining, RGB waveforms, and harmonic. Mixxx contributor here. Looking through the mapping file for this controller and photos on the web, it looks like there is a yellow button right in the middle of the controller labelled 'SCRATCH'. Press that and a light should turn on (probably inside the button). Now you're in scratch mode, and the turntables should work more like what you want. Dec 19, 2009  There's two different parts to this problem. One is: what does the DM2 send to Mixxx (depends on the driver and its config). Second one is: what does Mixxx make of it. Midi devices can send so-called relative control changes, which the target can internally add up to a positional value. All Midi turntable stuff should ideally work this way. Reverb occurs naturally when a sound is created in an enclosed space, and reflects from the walls. This effect can be created digitally, and is most noticeable when a sound cuts out suddenly and then continues to echo, slowly getting quieter.

I'm running Windows XP and Mixxx 1.5. I'm using the included config for DM2 to Midi.

The problem I'm having is that as soon as I touch one of the scratch wheels, the track begins to move forward very fast (which, I think, is what it should do if I turn the scratch wheel around very quickly). I looked in the .cfg file for the DM2, but it seems to not be detailed enough for me to find a solution in it (it just says 'wheel Ctrl 1 ch 1'). That makes me think the fix(xx) is something I'll have to do in DM2 to Midi, so my question is how does Mixxx define 'wheel' control? What messages does it expect to receive from jog wheel? Knowing that would help me a lot in figuring out how to alter the DM2 to Midi configuration.
